Our History

Hospital Energy began as, and has always been, a consulting firm specializing in helping healthcare institutions manage their energy spend. When we were founded in the early 1990's, our focus was on the installation of combined heat and power (CHP), or cogeneration (cogen) engines. As electric deregulation began in earnest in the mid-1990's, our focus switched to competitive energy procurement. We helped individual facilities purchase energy and began creating aggregations of hospitals in order to drive down costs. The aggregations we helped organize in New England were some of the first in the country.

Our commitment to aggregation allowed us opportunities to expand to the rest of the country. And as our footprint grew, our team grew, and our abilities increased as well. The competitive energy markets matured and we began advising clients on more sophisticated purchasing strategies. Today, Hospital Energy has more than $1B in contracts under management, with >$100M in demonstrated savings for our clients.

We opened a main office in the Chicago area in 2014. Around that time, we also launched another brand, Zenith Energy, which we use to engage clients in other verticals (e.g. hospitality, manufacturing, corporate real estate) across North America. We continue to value the relationships we've created in the healthcare industry (some of which span decades). We are passionate about energy management, and work hard to stay on the leading edge of the industry. In fact, we've recently demonstrated our leadership by writing best practices for energy procurement for healthcare.

We look forward to continue to help hospitals manage their energy needs for years to come.
